The mids and highs were clear, warm and true. The low end needed a boost, but it was there at the rated freqency. I am not a fan of huge subwoofers in cars that you can't even hear correctly until you're 20' away, but there was a 'smallness' to the sound I believe is the nature of ALL 5" speakers due to the free air resonance frequency being so high. (Free air resonance is determined by a fixed current fed into the speaker as you raise the hz. As the tone goes up, the current will jump at a frequency that is natural for that speaker.) I have 5x7's in my other vehicle that sound big enough to me and I think that is where the minimum is for cars. These would go great in the front with 6x9's or 5x7s' in the back or (gulp) a subwoofer.
